Moraira a small Spanish coastal
town, part of Teulada municipality, in the Marina
Alta comarca,
80 km north of Alicante and 100 km south of Valencia.
The town is located adjacent to the neighbouring village of
El Portet and both communities form a tourist resort on the Costa
Blanca strip, with 8 km of coastline backed by mountains
and vineyards.
An old fishing town on Spain's Costa Blanca against a
backdrop of mountains, Moraira is a picturesque destination for a family
holiday. You will find a combination of sandy and rocky beaches alternating
with intriguing coves, and the climate is a sunny but temperate one. If you are
looking for water sports, head for Portet Cove which was originally a safe
haven for ships.
It is within walking distance of the lookout tower near the
Cap d'Or, from where there are spectacular views of the coastline. Don't miss
the eighteenth-century castle, right by the shore. Golf lovers will be pleased
to know that Moraira has three golf courses. As well as spending time on the
beach, you can enjoy a boat trip and admire the clear waters of the
Mediterranean Sea. On your return, choose from a delightful array of
restaurants along the shore.
Moraina offers several nice beaches :
1) Platja de l'Ampolla. The blue-flag beach is the most urban
and popular in the area.
2) Platja de les Platgetes. Two adjoined smaller urban
beaches, also blue-flag.
3) Platja del Portet. The blue-flag sandy beach is good for
swimming as well as kayaking, and the footpath to the Torre del Cap d'Or begins
here.
4) Cala de l'Andragó. A quiet, rocky cove popular for diving,
snorkeling, and fishing.
